2012-2013 Registration Information
Pre-registration (Alumni) will be January 16-20th, 2012, via email.

The SCCA Preschool will be holding an Open House for parents interested in the program on February 8th between 6 and 8pm at St. James School. Both teachers, as well as members of the Board, will be on hand to answer questions about the program.

Registration for new registrants will be February 27th, 2012 at 8:00 am at the South Calgary Community Hall (3130-16th Street SW) on a first come first serve basis.

Everyone registering on February 27, 2012 will require a void cheque in order to cover the registration fee–this is the only way that we will accept registration. As always, proof of SCCA membership will be required at the time of registration.

2011/2012 Preschool Calendar (PDF)

The South Calgary Community Association Preschool (SCCAP), is a non-profit parent-run cooperative. We strive to provide a positive, cooperative and caring environment where three and four year olds come together to learn and explore through age appropriate play, activities and materials. There is lots of craft and story time and most days children go to the park or to the gym and we have access to the school library. Our goal is to ensure the preschool is a positive and enriching experience for each child.

The SCCAP is located in St James school at 2227-58th Ave SW. St. James school is a K-9 School whose philosophy is a "community of caring". The current Principal and the Trustee are very enthusiastic about our program. While located in a Catholic school, our program is non-denominational.

Three year old classes run Tuesday &Thursday morning and afternoon. The four year old classes run Monday, Wednesday & Friday morning and afternoon. Each class has twelve children. Children must turn 3 or 4 by December 31st to register in the program. Children who are not yet 3 are able to register but will not be able to start in the program until they are toilet trained and have reached their 3rd birthday.

Parents are asked to volunteer in the class about once per month and take on a small administrative/operational role (approximately 1 hour/month). Most parents tell us that they really enjoy being in the class to see how their child learns and plays with the other kids.

Our teachers are extremely experienced and the children clearly adore them. Elementary school teachers say they can recognize graduates from our program as they are very well prepared for kindergarten. Most of the children continue on to one of the local elementary schools with their classmates. We see many parents sending their second and third children to the program.

Limited space and high demand has necessitated that the SCCAP service the communities of Altadore, Garrison Woods, Marda Loop, River Park, South Calgary and the communities that fall within the St. James School boundaries. Verification of address will be required upon registration. If space permits, we will gladly accept children from outside of our boundaries.

We do not accept mid-year registration for the ongoing session, however there is a waitlist for the current year in the event of withdrawls. Please contact the registrar, Andrea Engels (preschoolregistrar@southcalgary
