Marda Loop Seniors Group

Our "Seniors in the Loop" Group usually gets together in the Marda Loop Community Association Upper Hall on the first Monday of each month except when it falls on a statutory holiday. Check The Source magazine or this website for updates.

We take a break for Summer, but still meet for walks, picnics, plays, movies or pool parties etc. either in small or large groups. Details of these outings can also be found in The Source magazine or members of the MLCA will be contacted by phone or e-mail.

These get-togethers start at 9 am with 45 minute of light exercise. This is followed by presentations by experts from various fields of interest to seniors with an opportunity to meet one-on-one with these knowledgeable individuals. An hour or so of social interaction and board games, singing, ping pong etc. follows till 12:30 pm.
Snacks and refreshments are provided by volunteers.

The Seniors also run a "Grand Friends" project where senior members of the Community meet with the MLCA Preschool 3 and 4 year old kids once a month to read stories, assist with crafts, bake, make music etc. This coming Christmas season, an inter-generational concert is planned for Senior residents at Staywell Manor involving the MLCA Seniors and the Preschool kids.

Also planned is a donation to Rocky View Hospital in mid-December consisting of knitted/crocheted items for the Winter season. All items will be produced and collected by the Seniors Group.

About MLCA Preschool

Our mission is to provide an exceptional, community-based preschool within a nurturing environment that fosters each child’s intellectual and social-emotional development.

We are a creative, play-based community preschool where children have the opportunity to learn through an environment that lays the foundation for future education. We promote peer-teacher-student relationships that develop children’s self-esteem and self awareness. Teachers encourage children to explore their environment through various sensory stations and enrichment programs which promote child-directed learning at a pace that meets each child’s needs.

The MLCA preschool is a parent-run cooperative and we ask for parents to get involved by volunteering in class and through small administrative or operational roles.

Set in the heart of the vibrant Marda Loop, our bright and cheerful preschool is positioned opposite the community centre, playground, ice-rink, library, fire hall, and community gardens.
